Black History Month - Visit from Kenny Baraka

Visit from Kenny Baraka ~ Black History Month

As part of our Black History Month celebrations, Kenny Baraka visited our school on Thursday 14th October. Kenny has been doing assemblies and other school events for a number of years and is very passionate about teaching.  Kenny was born in Eritrea, Africa, then relocated with his family to New York, where he attended University and gained his teaching qualifications, then with his hiphop career travelled the world until he found a way to blend his love of his roots and culture with teaching. He was the face and host of this year's online World Book Day events and is a member of the World Book Day Advisory Committee and so we feel very lucky to have been able to invite him into Holy Trinity to learn with our children.

Kenny spent the day visiting each class, shared stories, gave time for discussion and engaged the children in different activities. At the end of the day, he set up a book stall in the playground, with Nicci Rosengarten from the Moon Lane Bookstore, and offered a range of culturally diverse books for children to purchase.
